Our Story

How Spotty Kotty Began

What started as a challenge at home became a passion for helping families, pets, and homes feel fresh again.

It all started at home.

A few years ago, we brought home our first Oriental cat.
About eight months later, we adopted a sweet little Oriental girl so he would have a companion.

Then came one unexpected problem.

She was beautiful, smart, and full of personality — but she kept having accidents outside the litter box. While we were trying to understand why, our home became our first “training ground.”

Our home became our first training ground.

We had to learn how to clean almost everything.

Sofas, chairs, carpets, mattresses, bedding, and pillows — we had to learn how to clean all of it properly. Not just make it smell better for a few days, but truly remove the source of the odor and protect the fabric.

Not masking. Truly removing.

Because our cats are sensitive, harsh products were not an option. We wanted solutions that were effective, but also safer for pets, people, and the environment.

What started as a personal problem became real expertise.

Pet Behavior

We learned how pets think, why accidents happen, and how to prevent them.

Fabric Care

We studied fabrics so we could clean effectively without causing damage.

Odor Treatment

We treat the source, not just the smell, for lasing freshness.

Stain Removal

We use proven methods to remove stains safely and completely.

Then we found the cause.

Eventually, we learned that our cat’s issue was connected to her sensitive paws and litter comfort. Once we solved that, the accidents stopped.

But by then, we had gained real knowledge, hands-on experience, and a passion for helping others.

That was the begining of Spotty Kotty.

What started with pet accidents grew into a much deeper understanding of professional stain and odor removal.

Beyond pet stains

Over time, we learned how to work with many different types of stains — not only urine, pet odor, and fur, but also everyday accidents caused by real life.

Every stain is different, and every fabric needs the right approach.

Frequently Asked Questions

What services do you provide?

Spotty Kotty provides professional upholstery and carpet cleaning services for homes and light commercial spaces. We help with deep cleaning, stain treatment, pet odor issues, fabric refresh, and everyday buildup from dirt, body oils, dust, allergens, and spills.

We clean sofas, sectionals, couches, armchairs, dining chairs, ottomans, benches, mattresses, headboards, upholstered bed frames, selected area rugs, carpets, stairs, and other fabric surfaces.

Spotty Kotty focuses on detailed, careful cleaning with a personal approach. We inspect the fabric before cleaning, use professional equipment, choose cleaning solutions based on the material, and avoid over-wetting whenever possible.

We are a local, licensed and insured company serving Rocklin, Roseville, Granite Bay, Lincoln, Auburn, Colfax, all of Placer County, and nearby areas. Our goal is not just to make furniture look better, but to clean it safely, reduce residue, and leave your home feeling fresh.

Our cleaning process depends on the fabric type, cleaning code, condition, and type of stains. In most cases, upholstery cleaning includes several steps:

  1. We inspect the fabric and check the condition of the item.
  2. We remove loose debris and dry soil when needed.
  3. We apply a professional cleaning solution to help break down soil, body oils, and buildup.
  4. We gently agitate the fabric when appropriate.
  5. We extract the loosened soil and rinse the fabric using professional equipment.
  6. We apply a neutralizing rinse to help remove cleaning solution residue and help restore the fabric’s pH.
  7. If needed, we treat remaining spots and help speed up drying.

For delicate or natural fabrics, we adjust the method to reduce risk and protect the material.

Most carpets and upholstered furniture should be professionally cleaned every 6 to 12 months, depending on use. Homes with pets, kids, allergies, frequent guests, or light-colored furniture may need cleaning more often.

Regular cleaning helps remove body oils, dust, pet dander, allergens, and dirt before they become deeply embedded in the fibers. It can also help reduce dust mites and other microscopic buildup that may collect in carpets and upholstered furniture over time.

Even when fabric looks clean, dust, allergens, pet dander, body oils, and fine dirt can build up deep inside the fibers. Professional cleaning helps remove hidden soil and keeps your furniture and carpets fresher, cleaner, and more comfortable to use.

Yes. We use professional cleaning solutions designed specifically for upholstery and carpet cleaning. Whenever possible, we choose safe, non-toxic, pet-friendly solutions.

Our process also includes rinsing and neutralizing steps to help remove cleaning solution residue from the fabric. This helps leave your furniture cleaner, fresher, and more comfortable for your family and pets.

For pets, small children, or sensitive family members, please let us know before the appointment so we can choose the safest approach for your home.

Cleaning time depends on the size, quantity, fabric type, and level of soil. A standard 2–3 seat sofa may take about 40 to 90 minutes. Larger sectionals, heavily soiled furniture, pet odor treatment, or multiple items may take longer.

Carpet cleaning time depends on the number of rooms, stairs, and the condition of the carpet.

Drying time depends on fabric type, thickness, airflow, humidity, room temperature, and how much cleaning was needed. On average, upholstery dries in about 3 to 8 hours.

Good ventilation, ceiling fans, open windows, or air movers can help speed up drying. Heavily soiled items or thick cushions may take longer.

We also offer an accelerated drying service that can significantly reduce drying time.

No. We use a controlled, low-moisture cleaning process whenever possible to avoid over-wetting the fabric. This helps protect the furniture and supports faster drying.

The amount of moisture depends on the fabric type, condition, and level of soil.

Yes. We treat many odors caused by pets, body oils, food spills, smoke, and general mustiness. For pet urine and stronger odors, we use specialty odor treatment products designed to help neutralize the odor source, not just cover it with fragrance.

In some cases, when odor has soaked deep into cushions, padding, carpet backing, or the subfloor, it becomes one of the most challenging odor issues to treat. We will always do everything possible to achieve the best result based on the condition, material, and level of contamination.

We always do our best to remove stains safely, but not every stain can be guaranteed to come out completely. Some stains may be permanent, especially if they are old, deeply absorbed, caused by dye transfer, bleach, ink, paint, blood, pet urine, or previous DIY cleaning attempts.

If we believe a stain may not come out completely, we’ll let you know before we begin.

We can treat many common stains, including coffee, wine, food spills, pet accidents, body oils, dirt, mud, makeup, ink, and everyday spots.

Some stains respond very well to professional treatment, while others may only improve. The result depends on the type of stain, the fabric, how long the stain has been there, and what was used on it before.

We provide both residential and light commercial cleaning services. Spotty Kotty can help with sofas, chairs, waiting room furniture, office upholstery, area rugs, carpets, stairs, and other fabric surfaces in small business spaces.

Yes. We clean mattresses and help remove surface soil, sweat marks, light stains, odors, blood stains, and other common spots.

Yes. We clean selected area rugs depending on the material, construction, backing, and condition. Some rugs may require special care or off-site rug cleaning, especially wool, silk, vintage, handmade, or delicate rugs.

Please send us photos of the rug and its care label if available.

Yes, but delicate fabrics require extra care. Some materials may need a low-moisture or specialty cleaning method. Before cleaning, we inspect the fabric and choose the safest approach possible.

If the fabric is natural, vintage, designer, or marked with a special cleaning code, please let us know before the appointment.

Many furniture pieces have a care tag with a cleaning code:

W — water-based cleaning is usually allowed.
S — solvent-based cleaning only.
W/S — water-based or solvent-based cleaning may be allowed.
X — vacuum only; professional wet cleaning is not recommended.

If you are not sure what your tag means, you can send us a photo and we’ll help you understand it.

Our service prices start at $29, with a $150 minimum order.

The final cost depends on the type of item, size, fabric, condition, and type of stains. For more detailed rates, please visit our Pricing page.
